Seminar on Social Media Addiction and Loneliness


On 3 February 2026, a seminar addressing university youth’s use of digital media and its psychosocial implications was held at the Faculty of Communication, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. The seminar was delivered by Bedir Eroğlu and organized within the scope of a doctoral dissertation conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niyazi Ayhan.

Titled “Social Media Addiction and Loneliness: A Study on University Youth in Kyrgyzstan,” the seminar presented up-to-date global statistics on social media usage patterns among university students.

During the seminar, participants were informed about the findings of a large-scale field study conducted across all regions of Kyrgyzstan with a sample of over 2,600 respondents. The presentation focused on key results concerning the relationship between social media addiction and loneliness among university youth.

Eroğlu stated that the doctoral research aims to examine the level, direction, and determining dynamics of the relationship between social media addiction and loneliness among university students in Kyrgyzstan. Formun Üstü
