Nargiza Mamatkulova, a filmmaker and lecturer in the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University’s (KTMU) Faculty of Communication, has been honored with an international award in the CAF Pitch industry program at the IV Bishkek International Film Festival for her feature-length fiction film project “Apple”. This key financial and professional backing will allow Mamatkulova to accelerate script development and co-production efforts.
By connecting Central Asian film initiatives with representatives of the global film industry, CAF Pitch provides directors and producers with a platform to present and refine their projects alongside industry experts. Participants engage in discussions covering screenplay structure, production capabilities, financing avenues, and co-production opportunities.
International Support for the Development of “Apple”
The distinction awarded to Mamatkulova’s “Apple” opens up new avenues for the film’s development and international partnerships. Project pitchings and expert evaluations foster a collaborative environment that enhances the film’s narrative architecture and helps streamline production planning. Furthermore, this process enables Central Asian filmmakers to showcase their work to global industry leaders and build strong international co-production networks.
Film Development Experience as a Valuable Educational Resource
Mamatkulova’s active involvement in film production strengthens the bridge between academic cinema education at KTMU and hands-on industry practices. Insights gained from refining the script, preparing pitch presentations, and negotiating with potential production partners serve as practical benchmarks for students developing their own film projects.
The narrative techniques, production parameters, and financing structures evaluated during international review sessions offer up-to-date material for courses in screenwriting, directing, and filmmaking. Integrating this real-world expertise into the curriculum helps students gain a comprehensive understanding of a film's journey from initial concept to final execution.
The recognition of “Apple” at CAF Pitch underscores the high creative capacity and technical expertise of KTMU’s Faculty of Communication, while elevating the international profile of its academic faculty's professional achievements.
