Department of Radio, Television and Cinema
The Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at the Faculty of Communication, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, was established in 2000. Since its inception, it has evolved as an educational environment dedicated to cultivating creative, critical, and productive professionals in the field of audiovisual communication. With the contributions of expert academics from both Kyrgyzstan and Turkiye, the department has built a robust academic tradition and emerged as one of Central Asia's leading media and communication programs.
The department adopts a contemporary educational approach that addresses the rapidly transforming landscape of media and creative industries. The program integrates classical narrative forms of cinema and television with digital media, multi-platform content production, new narrative techniques, and AI-supported media technologies. This approach ensures that students not only acquire technical proficiency but also develop a broader perspective on media culture, visual storytelling, and communication theories. Education is conducted in both Turkish and Kyrgyz.
The educational philosophy is based on creating a learning environment where theory, creative production, and critical thinking are seamlessly integrated. While students gain academic knowledge in communication theories, film aesthetics, media culture, and digital communication, they also become active participants in the creative process by producing film, television, and digital media projects.
Key Objectives of the Department include:
Within the scope of the program, students receive training in film, television, and radio production, scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, media aesthetics, digital storytelling, and new media technologies. Theoretical courses are reinforced by practical applications, providing students the opportunity to experience every stage of the media production cycle.
To date, students of the department have produced numerous short films, documentaries, and media projects, winning various awards at national and international film festivals, competitions. The department’s state-of-the-art radio and television studios and production infrastructure allow students to gain professional experience while still in their undergraduate years.
The department also plays a vital role in media production and cultural documentation in Central Asia. Through projects led by academics and students, the department produces public service announcements and documentaries that record the history, culture, and social life of Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and the Turkic world through visual narratives.
Graduates can pursue careers in the film and television industry as directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, scriptwriters, and art directors. Additionally, they find opportunities in digital media platforms, content production studios, advertising agencies, and various sectors of the creative industries. Many of our graduates also continue their academic journey through Master’s and PhD programs.
