Seminar on "Transition to Lean Production and 5S" Held at the Department of Industrial Engineering

The Department of Industrial Engineering added a new one to its seminar series organized to raise students' awareness of modern management approaches and strengthen their sectoral knowledge. On Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:30 AM, in the MFFB-128 Simulation and Optimization Laboratory, our department faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Özyörük gave a comprehensive and informative presentation titled "Transition to Lean Production and 5S."

In the seminar, lean production principles used to increase efficiency in production and service processes, eliminate waste, and establish a continuous improvement (kaizen) philosophy were discussed. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Özyörük explained the role of the 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) methodology, which is one of the most fundamental and critical tools of lean transformation, in ensuring workplace organization, occupational safety, and operational discipline through concrete examples. The challenges encountered in transition processes to lean production and the importance of properly managing human resources and cultural change in these processes were detailed and shared with the students.

The event, which drew high interest from our students and faculty members, ended with an interactive Q&A session after the presentation. We thank Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Özyörük for this valuable presentation, which made significant contributions to our students' professional vision and career planning.
