As part of the event titled “On the Terme Craft,” organized by the Painting Department of our faculty on February 5, 2026, guest artist Totu Gulbaeva met with students and shared her experiences in the field of traditional handicrafts.
During the event, Totu Gulbaeva engaged with students and stated that although she is retired, she continues her artistic production with great passion. She also shared her international experiences gained through participation in art fairs in various countries.
It was emphasized during the event that traditional handicrafts are not only a cultural heritage of the past but also a dynamic field that can develop through interaction with contemporary art. Drawing on examples from her own artistic practice, Gulbaeva discussed how traditional craft knowledge can be reinterpreted within today’s artistic understanding.
This event, organized for students of the Painting Department, provided an important platform for practice and knowledge transfer in terms of preserving traditional handicrafts and passing them on to future generations. At the same time, attention was drawn to the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in art, contributing to the establishment of a connection between traditional crafts and contemporary art practices.
Through the event, students had the opportunity to enhance their creative thinking processes by drawing inspiration from different artistic disciplines and to develop awareness regarding the sustainability of cultural heritage.
