Mimar Sinan, one of the most significant figures of Turkish-Islamic art, was comprehensively discussed in the seminar titled “The Model Individual in Turkish-Islamic Art: Mimar Sinan.” The seminar was delivered by our Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özkarcı, and took place on February 17 at 14:00 in Amphitheater No. 103.
During the seminar, Mimar Sinan was evaluated not only as a great master of Ottoman architecture, but also within the framework of the concept of the “model individual” in Turkish-Islamic civilization, considering his artistic vision, aesthetic approach, professional ethics, and the values he represented. Prof. Dr. Özkarcı drew attention to the intellectual depth and the vision of civilization underlying Mimar Sinan’s architectural works.
Within the scope of the seminar, it was emphasized that Mimar Sinan’s works should be regarded not merely as physical structures, but as multi-layered manifestations of the social, cultural, and religious world of their time. The balance between functionality, aesthetics, and spirituality in Sinan’s architectural understanding was discussed through examples.
The seminar, which was followed with great interest by the participants, also addressed the significance of Mimar Sinan for contemporary art and architectural thought. The program concluded with a question-and-answer session.
