The Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory is a structural unit of the Department of Biology within the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

The laboratory was established in 2020 within the framework of the Department of Biology with the aim of advancing priority research areas in genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology.

The primary objective of the laboratory is to ensure that master’s (MSc) and doctoral (PhD) students enrolled in the fields of genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology acquire proficiency in modern laboratory research methods and actively engage in scientific research activities. The laboratory also conducts fundamental and applied research in molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology, and supports the implementation of research projects carried out by the academic staff in accordance with the department’s scientific and thematic plan.

Main Research Areas of the Laboratory:

  • Investigation of the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of the flora and fauna of Kyrgyzstan using molecular markers;
  • Molecular genetic analysis of transgenic (genetically modified) organisms;
  • Molecular genetic identification of microorganisms and pathogenic organisms;
  • Study of mobile genetic elements in organisms;
  • Isolation and identification of genes from living organisms;
  • Investigation of associations between genetic and phenotypic characteristics of living organisms.
