Unforgettable Performance at Manas University: “Aikashka” Captivates the Audience
As part of the events marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University hosted a remarkable performance of Ashym Zhakypbekov’s unforgettable work Aikashka on November 25, 2024. The play, performed by third-year students from the Department of Theater of Manas University, received enthusiastic acclaim from the audience.
The event was attended by Deputy Rector, Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibraev, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Prof. Dr. Kurshad Gulbeyaz, faculty members from the Kyrgyz State University of Culture and Arts named after Bubusara Beishenalieva, graduates, and many students.
Directed by Manas University’s Department of Theater lecturer, Chagaldak Zamirbekov, the performance reimagined the essential elements of nomadic life through the lens of Aikashka. Zamirbekov highlighted that the work delves into the profound relationship between horse and man, exploring themes of fate, culture, tradition, and intergenerational conflict. Written in 1959 by Ashym Zhakypbekov, one of Kyrgyz literature’s most esteemed figures and screenwriter, the play conveys the nuances and deep meanings of horse training through a powerful and expressive stage language.
“The Horse is Man’s Wing”
Speaking after the performance, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibraev underscored the unique place of the horse in the lives of nomadic peoples. He remarked: “For the Kyrgyz and all nomadic peoples, the bond between man and horse holds profound significance. The saying “The Horse is Man’s Wing” was not coined without reason. Today’s performance allowed us to deeply feel this connection. I sincerely thank our talented young performers.”
Prof. Dr. Ibraev also praised the students for their outstanding dedication, stating: “Your performance demonstrated your love for and commitment to your profession. Each of you has done an incredible job. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the faculty members for their dedication in educating and guiding you.”
The emotionally powerful performance deeply touched the audience, who responded with prolonged applause, affirming the impact of this exceptional artistic effort.
