SUFISM SEMINARS – V “The Sultan’s Love and the Nature of Sufi Journey”

On November 19, 2024, Associate Professor Şeyda Öztürk held the fifth Sufism Seminar. Using examples from the works of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, the speaker spoke about the role of love in Sufi traditions. During the seminar, Şeyda Öztürk noted the importance of ethics in Sufi teachings, referring to the scene with the "soul healer" in Mevlana's works. The seminar also discussed the problem of how love in Sufi teachings cannot be fully expressed in words. The second half of the seminar focused on the question of how to define love in the context of Sufi philosophy. Special attention was also paid to the contribution of Shams Tabrezi to Mevlana's Sufi thought.
