PhD candidate Dilnoza Rahmatillayeva addressed the effects of religious groups on family structures from a sociological perspective in her study titled “The Effect of Religious Groups on the Family Institution in Kyrgyzstan: The Example of the Tablighi Jamaat”. The effects of the Tablighi Jamaat operating in Kyrgyzstan on the family institution were examined in detail through field research and in-depth interviews conducted within the scope of the thesis.

The study drew attention to the decisive effects of religious communities on family roles, marriage structures, child education and gender perceptions. The research findings revealed that these structures played an important role in the reconstruction of traditional family values, while also emphasizing the protective and resistant aspects of religious structures in the face of modernization processes. The thesis, which received positive feedback from the jury members, was appreciated for the prediction that it would make valuable contributions to the sociology of religion literature.

This valuable academic study has the potential to make an important contribution both to a better understanding of the religious and social structure in Kyrgyzstan and to the sociological analysis of family models in Central Asia.
