Seminar on “Imam Maturidi and the Interpretation of the Qur’an”
A seminar on "Imam Matüridi and Te'vilatü'l-Qur'an" was held at the Faculty of Theology of Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University (KTMÜ) on October 8, 2025 at 2:30 p.m., with the participation of theologian-Yazar Muhammed Masum Vanlıoğlu as a speaker.
A large number of students participated in the seminar, as well as academic and administrative staff of the faculty. Muhammed Masum Vanlıoğlu, in his presentation, discussed in detail Imam Matüridi's scholarly personality, understanding of tafsir and the place of his work called Te'vilatü'l-Qur'an in the tradition of Islamic tafsir. Vanlıoğlu stated that Imam Matüridi's style of interpretation, which focuses on the balance of intellect and revelation, is a strong point of reference for today's Islamic thought.
In addition, Vanlıoğlu stated that Te'vilatü'l-Qur'an is not only a book of interpretation, but also a legacy of deep thought, and drew attention to the importance of students reading this work from a contemporary perspective. During the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to actively ask questions and discuss the issues they were interested in.
At the end of the program, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology presented a certificate of appreciation to the speaker Muhammed Masum Vanlıoğlu. The event ended with a commemorative photo shoot.
KTMÜ Faculty of Theology continues to contribute to the academic development of students with scientific activities organized in the fields of Islamic thought, tafsir and kalam.
