Historical and archaeological researches carried out along the Tengri Mountains (Tian Shan) show that Kyrgyzstan was an important center through out the Ancient and Middle Ages. Burial mounds (kurgans), statues, petroglyphs, inscriptions, ancient ruins, and many more archaeological remains can be found in almost each valleys of the Tengri Mountains. Documentation and research on the region started at the end of the 19th century and continues to the present day. Advances in science have paved a new way for interdisciplinary research in the study of historical and archaeological heritage. For instance, GIS (Geographic Information System) technology for locating and documenting historical and archaeological monuments; C14 analysis to determine the period of artifacts; isotope analysis in DNA studies of ancient humans; genetic, botanical, paleozoological and anthropological studies help us to obtain comprehensive and detailed information about ancient societies.
The Research Institute for the History, Language and Archaeology of Eurasia, which was established with the initiative and absolute support of the Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, aims to introduce the historical and cultural heritage of our ancestors to scientific world and the public.
