Seminar on Repressed Women Held at the Faculty of Communication, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University

A seminar titled “The Fate of Repressed Women in Kyrgyzstan (1920–1953)” was held at the Faculty of Communication of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. The seminar was delivered by Saltanat Asekova, Associate Professor, Candidate of Historical Sciences, and Head of the Research Department at the Ata-Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex.

The event began with the screening of a documentary film on the victims of political repressions in Kyrgyzstan, followed by a moment of silence in their honor.

In her presentation, Asekova shared statistical data on political repressions that took place between 1920 and 1953. She analyzed the lives of Kyrgyzstani women who were executed or suffered the hardships of exile during that tragic period, based on archival documents and eyewitness accounts. Through individual life stories, she discussed how collective memory has been shaped by these personal tragedies.

In addition, Asekova noted that she continues to conduct individual research on the fate of each repressed woman. She emphasized that the primary goal of her work is to contribute to the restoration of historical justice and to bring long-forgotten names back into public memory.

At the end of the event, Saltanat Asekova donated the book, “Repressed Women of Kyrgyzstan (1920–1953),” to the library of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University.
