On 13 October 2026, a seminar entitled “Welfare and Social Cohesion: Two Decades of Research in Kyrgyzstan” was held for third- and fourth-year students of the Department of Economics at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Damir Esenaliev, PhD, Senior Researcher at the International Security and Development Center (ISDC), Germany.
During the seminar, key socio-economic issues in Kyrgyzstan were discussed, including trends in poverty and inequality, intergenerational mobility in education, informal employment, and job quality. The speaker also presented findings from research on social cohesion based on the Life in Kyrgyzstan panel data (2010–2025).
The students showed great interest in the topic and actively asked questions about research methods, working with panel data, and opportunities for pursuing an academic career. The seminar provided students with valuable insights into how empirical research can contribute to a deeper understanding of the country's socio-economic challenges. It also stimulated their interest in academic research and introduced them to opportunities for conducting their own research and developing their research skills.
