On April 28, 2026, an academic visit was conducted to the National Institute for Teacher Training and In-Service Education under the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek. The visit was carried out with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arcan Aydemir, a faculty member of the Faculty of Education at Artvin Çoruh University who was visiting the Department of Educational Science within the scope of the ORHUN Exchange Program, together with Dr. Kadiyan Boobekova, a lecturer from our department.
The purpose of the visit was stated as evaluating the similarities between the educational programs of the two countries and sharing mutual experiences.
As part of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arcan Aydemir delivered a presentation titled “The Historical Journey and Scope of Social Studies: Social Studies from Past to Present.” The presentation provided comprehensive information about the structure, content, covered areas, historical development, and recent transformations of the Social Studies course within the framework of the Maarif Model.
It was emphasized that the presentation, delivered during Kyrgyzstan’s transition process to a 12-year education system and at a time when efforts to develop a new educational model were accelerating, offered important contributions regarding integrated course models such as STEM, Science Education, and Social Studies. Administrators of the National Institute for Teacher Training and In-Service Education, as well as teachers of history, geography, literature, language, and social sciences attending in-service training programs, stated that the presentation contained highly valuable and up-to-date information.
In his evaluation, the Director of the Institute, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Almaz Toktomametov, expressed his satisfaction with the visit and stated that the information shared was consistent with the new curriculum studies currently being prepared by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Throughout the presentation, questions, discussions, and exchanges of views regarding curricula, course contents, similarities, and differences were translated and conveyed to the participants by Dr. Kadiyan Boobekova from the Department of Educational Science. The program concluded with expressions of appreciation from the participants and a group photograph.
