Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at KTMU first started classes in Kyrgyz in the 2008-2009 academic year. An education in philosophy requires learning about the world and mankind's place in it. This requires three different tasks: representing a world view of the foundations of growth; justifying the methodology of knowledge; and reflecting the social view of existence. In the context of globalization as a global growth trend, philosophy, as the quintessential of thoughts of the epoch, allows us not only to form a world view, but to understand the specifics of the modern world and to define a direction of growth for the future. At the Department of Philosophy, students study not only the history of world philosophy (with emphasis on Turkic philosophy), but also the theoretical blocks of philosophy as a discipline and special fields of philosophical knowledge. Additionally, theoretical ideas are closely related with practical work, which allows our students to combine theory with existing socio-cultural situations. In addition to Turkish and Kyrgyz, students also Russian and English. 

Goals

The goal of the Department of Philosophy is to prepare qualified specialists. Thus, special attention is paid to the following areas:

• The formation and growth of general philosophical knowledge;
• The formation and preparation of professionals with a philosophical background, as well as qualified specialists, in fields that are in-demand;
• Preparing professionals who are able to synthesize ideas and put them to use to learn more. 

Special attention is placed on nurturing education and highly intelligent people who are able to think creatively and come up with new ideas, who are able to innovate and develop the present and future both theoretically and in the context of the current socio-cultural context. 

The above goals shape our academic program and give emphasis to the following directions of our work:

• Introducing students to the field of philosophy on the basis of comparing Eastern, Western, and Central Asian research;
• Creating programs that cover different fields of general philosophical knowledge, and academic programs for special courses that go deeper into certain fields of philosophy;
• Carrying out research;
• Utilizing different forms and methods of lecturing and holding classes;
• Consistently improving the qualifications of lecturers and improving the educational process;
• Raising students' cognitive skills and supporting their improvement;
• Using modern technology in the educational process;
• Defining assessment criteria;
• Developing ways for students to work independently;
• Organizing and carrying out student conferences, and helping students prepare for national olympiads in philosophy.
