Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University hosted an important conference on skin health and infectious diseases, featuring Prof. Dr. Mehmet Melikoğlu, Head of the Department of Dermatological and Venereal Diseases at Atatürk University. The event took place on March 19, 2025, at the KTMU Rectorate Conference Hall.

The conference was attended by KTMU Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İbrahim Çapak, Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan and Prof. Dr. Kamalbek Karymshakov, Secretary General Prof. Dr. İsmet Altıntaş, as well as numerous academicians and students.

Prof. Dr. Melikoğlu delivered a comprehensive presentation on “Skin Diseases and Skin Problems, the Importance of Sun Protection, HPV, and Infectious Diseases.” Emphasizing the importance of regular dermatological exams for maintaining skin health, Prof. Dr. Melikoğlu stated that early diagnosis is crucial for treating many skin diseases.

Addressing sun protection, Prof. Dr. Melikoğlu warned about the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays, noting that prolonged exposure accelerates skin aging and increases the risk of spots, wrinkles, and even skin cancer. He stressed that sun protection is essential year-round, not just in summer, and highlighted effective measures such as using sunscreen, staying in the shade, and wearing wide-brimmed hats and protective clothing. He also noted that children and fair-skinned individuals are especially susceptible to UV damage, and childhood sunburns can increase the risk of severe skin diseases later in life.

Prof. Dr. Melikoğlu also raised awareness about HPV (Human Papillomavirus) and other infectious diseases, presenting scientific data on transmission, prevention, and risk factors. He emphasized that educating youth is key to preventing such diseases and encouraged the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits.

The conference provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and engage in discussions, fostering a shared understanding of the need for greater awareness of dermatology and infectious diseases.

At the conclusion of the event, KTMU Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İbrahim Çapak and Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Melikoğlu for his valuable contributions. The conference ended with a group photo session.
