On March 20, 2025, the Turkic Civilization Research and Application Center of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University organized a panel discussion titled “Nowruz Traditions in the Turkic World.”
The event held at the Kasym Tynystanov Conference Hall, was attended by KTMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan, Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özkarcı, Head of the Turkic Civilization Research and Application Center Prof. Dr. Mehmet Arif Özerbaş, as well as numerous academicians and students.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Arif Özerbaş emphasized that Nowruz is not merely a spring festival but also a profound tradition that strengthens shared cultural heritage, historical roots, and the bonds of brotherhood. He stated, “It is our collective responsibility to preserve this cultural richness inherited from our ancestors and pass it on to future generations.”
The program continued with a panel discussion chaired by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan, where participants explored the historical origins of Nowruz, its cultural significance, and its role in the Turkic World.
Prof. Dr. Nurudin Kydyraliev, in his presentation titled “Traditional Cuisine of the Kyrgyz People on Nowruz,” elaborated on Kyrgyz culinary traditions during Nowruz, highlighting the special dishes prepared for the occasion. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Akman, in his presentation “Nowruz in the Media,” examined how Nowruz has been portrayed in the press throughout history and its representation in various media platforms. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roza Abdykulova, in her presentation “The Origins of Nowruz among the Turks,” discussed the historical and mythological roots of Nowruz in Turkic communities.
The program concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to the panelists, followed by a group photo of all attendees.
