Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University celebrated Nowruz, the herald of spring and a symbol of unity and solidarity with a colorful event on March 25, 2025, at the Kasym Tynystanov Conference Hall. The celebration brought together KTMU Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibraev, academicians, students, guests, and members of the press.
The festivities began with traditional rituals, including a heartfelt Nowruz prayer led by Umai Ene. Students then shared sumolok, a dessert symbolizing fertility, while Baba Dyikan ceremoniously sowed wheat seeds, marking the awakening of nature.
A highlight of the program was a captivating recital from the Manas Epic, one of the most treasured narratives of Kyrgyz culture. Traditional performances such as Aitysh (the art of improvisation), Kyz Kuumai (Girl Chasing), and Ulak Tartysh (the struggle for the goat), a beloved Nowruz tradition attracted great attention from the audience.
One of the most ancient Nowruz customs, the iron-forging ritual was performed by Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan and Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibraev. As the rhythmic sounds of hammers echoed through the hall, the audience felt deeply connected to this powerful tradition, witnessing the enduring legacy of cultural heritage.
Adding to the festivities, the Dastan Komuz Group delivered an extraordinary musical performance, while melodies infused with Azerbaijani and Mongolian influences highlighting the cultural diversity of Nowruz. The celebration also featured impressive performances by the Turkish folk dance team and the Kyrgyz and Caucasian dance ensemble Manastyn Kyzdary. The event culminated in spectacular vocal performances by soloists Azat Sadykov, Elmira Tazhieva, Altynai Abdrahmanova, Salymbek Saidov, and Gulzina Manapova, whose powerful voices left a lasting impression.
In his speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Ceylan expressed his heartfelt wishes for peace, happiness, and prosperity across the Turkic and Islamic world, stating, “May our friendship and brotherhood last forever.” Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibraev also congratulated the participants, saying, “May peace, unity, and solidarity always prevail in our country, bringing abundance and prosperity.”
Nowruz at Manas University was a celebration of peace, brotherhood, and cultural unity. The joyous atmosphere, the echoes of traditional melodies, and the revival of age-old customs created an unforgettable experience, leaving lasting memories of this cherished holiday.
