On the 17th anniversary of his passing, the great writer and renowned name of the Turkic World Chyngyz Aitmatov was commemorated with an international forum held in his homeland Kyrgyzstan. Titled “Chyngyz Aitmatov: The Future of the Turkic World”, the forum took place on June 10, 2025, under the leadership of TURKSOY. It was organized in cooperation with the Institute of Language and Literature named after Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Chyngyz Aitmatov Institute in Ankara.
The forum was attended by Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, State Secretary Marat Imankulov, and Deputy Head of the Department of Political and Economic Research of the Presidential Administration Oktyabr Kapalbaev, Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Prof. Dr. Kanatbek Abdrahmatov, President of the Chyngyz Aitmatov Institute in Ankara Prof. Dr. İlyas Topsakal, Member of the UN Human Rights Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Prof. Dr. Akmal Saidov, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Writers’ Union Mereke Kulkenov, and Director of the Institute of Language and Literature named after Chyngyz Aitmatov Prof. Dr. Abdyldazhan Akmataliev. The event also brought together numerous writers, academics, and cultural representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Hosted by the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, the forum focused on the literary legacy of Chyngyz Aitmatov, his enduring influence on the Turkic world, and his contributions to universal human values. A key highlight was the official opening ceremony of the Chyngyz Aitmatov Institute recently established in Ankara.
Presentations delivered during the forum emphasized Aitmatov’s unique and deeply humanistic approach to universal themes such as peace, human rights, social justice, and cultural identity. It was reaffirmed that his intellectual and literary legacy remains a shared treasure and a lasting source of inspiration not only for the Kyrgyz people but for the entire Turkic world.
