Kyrgyz People's Understanding of the Law and Islamic Law (Assist. Prof. Dr. Aiitmamat Kariev)
On 21.02.2023 Asst. Prof. Dr. Aiitmama Kariev presented an academic seminar titled “Kyrgyz People's Understanding of Law and Islamic Law” to the academic staff and graduate students of the Faculty of Theology.
Kariev talked about the history of the Kyrgyz people, the process of accepting Islam and the understanding of law before and after Islam. Then, he explained the responsibilities of the Kyrgyz about naming, akike, engagement, mahr, marriage, wedding, custody, and post-marriage within the scope of family law, by comparing it with Islamic law. As a result, he stated that when the Kyrgyz customary traditions and Islamic law are compared, they often overlap, and therefore they accelerate the process of adopting Islam.
