International Symposium on Hanafi-Maturidi Interpretation of Islam


The International Symposium on Hanafi-Maturidi Interpretation of Islam, organized by Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Faculty of Theology, was held on May 17, 2024, at Kasım Tınıstanov Conference Hall.

The symposium started with the national anthems of both countries and watching the promotional video of the university.

Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan in his opening speech of the symposium emphasized that the Faculty of Theology is one of the faculties that provide the best education in Kyrgyzstan. Prof. Dr. Ceylan stated that the PhD students graduating this year will make significant contributions to the world of science and said, "We exist for science and we will produce knowledge. We will share right and wrong with Muftiyat in the light of science, and we have absolute faith that they will do what is necessary." 

Prof. Dr. Ceylan also stated that Abdülkerim Satuk Buğra Khan Mosque is full every day and that this is a great source of pride and happiness for the university. He thanked those who contributed to the realization of the symposium.

Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz İbrayev in his opening speech stated that the university contributes not only in the field of education but also in different social areas. Prof. Dr. Almaz İbrayev said, "Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University contributes to our society and various areas of social life. I thank you for organizing such a conference and discussing important issues."

Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Prof. Dr. Hasan Ayık in the opening speech of the symposium gave information about the faculty and touched upon the panels, seminars and symposiums organized within the faculty. Prof. Dr. Ayık stated that the symposium consists of a total of 10 sessions, face-to-face and online, and emphasized that participants from various countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tatarstan, Nigeria, Algeria, Indonesia and Afghanistan will present papers.

Deputy Mufti of Kyrgyzstan Muslims Samidin Acı Atabaev, in his speech at the symposium, stated that the symposium has great importance at the state level and said, "This symposium held at Manas University will further strengthen our friendship, history, brotherhood and unity between the two countries. Especially he said: "Our unifying religious values and Islamic system are a great reward for us." 

T.R. Bishkek Embassy Religious Services Counselor Salih Sezik emphasized that Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University has an important place in world rankings. Sezik said, "It made me very proud to be together with the valuable faculty members and students of the university. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the symposium and wish them success." 

After the opening speeches, the first session was held by chairmanship of the Chief Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan. Prof. Dr. Doğan started the session by touching on the importance of the symposium.

In the sessions, topics titled 'Hanafi-Maturidi Thought and Rational Sciences', 'Fâkihi of the Hanafî Madhab : Kıvamüddin al-İtkanî and His Fiqh Thoughts', 'Imam Maturidi's Thought of Wisdom and Transplantation', 'Hanafiism-Maturidiy Relation in the Fergana Valley' were discussed.

At the end of the program, certificates were presented to the participants and a group photo was taken.

The symposium allowed the Hanafi-Maturidi thought to reach a wider audience, to share academic studies in this field, and to exchange information between participants from different countries in the Islamic world.
