OBJECTIVES OF THE VETERINARY MEDICINE PROGRAMME
The objective of the Veterinary Medicine Programme at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University is to educate veterinarians with scientific knowledge and professional competencies in protecting animal health and welfare, preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases, improving livestock production, protecting public health, and ensuring food safety.
In addition to undergraduate education, our Faculty also aims to train qualified researchers and academics through doctoral programmes. These programmes are intended to develop specialists with advanced scientific knowledge who can conduct independent research and contribute to the international scientific community.
Through postgraduate education, the Faculty seeks to promote original and innovative scientific research addressing the priority needs of Kyrgyzstan and the Turkestan region in veterinary medicine, animal health, and sustainable livestock farming. In this regard, our Faculty aims to strengthen the region's scientific and academic capacity, train highly qualified professionals, and foster international scientific cooperation.
In accordance with the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health, the Programme aims to develop competencies in combating zoonotic diseases, veterinary public health, safe food production, animal welfare, and sustainable livestock farming.
One of our Faculty's key priorities is to contribute to the development of the livestock potential of Turkestan countries, address regional animal health challenges, and improve the quality of veterinary health services. To this end, the Faculty aims to conduct scientific research that takes regional needs into account, educate qualified veterinarians, and strengthen academic cooperation with national and international institutions.
The Programme aims to equip students with scientific thinking, evidence-based decision-making, professional ethics, analytical evaluation, and lifelong learning skills. It also seeks to ensure that graduates achieve the professional competencies required to work at both national and international levels.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of the Veterinary Medicine Programme have a wide range of employment opportunities in the public and private sectors, subject to the legislation and professional licensing requirements of the relevant countries. The main career fields include:
- Veterinary health services: Private veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, and veterinary diagnostic and treatment centres.
- Public institutions: Government agencies and municipalities responsible for animal health, animal disease control, veterinary public health, food safety, and livestock farming.
- Livestock production and breeding: Cattle and small ruminant farms, poultry farms, breeding establishments, and animal breeding and genetic improvement organizations.
- Food safety and quality control: Organizations involved in the production, processing, hygiene, and quality control of meat, milk, and other products of animal origin.
- Veterinary pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and feed industry: Businesses involved in the production, development, and distribution of veterinary medicines, vaccines, biological products, and animal feed.
- Laboratories and research institutions: Veterinary diagnostic laboratories, research centres, and scientific research organizations.
- Academic and international activities: Universities, research institutes, and national and international organizations working in animal health, zoonotic diseases, food safety, and sustainable livestock farming.
GRADUATE COMPETENCIES
Graduates of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are expected to acquire the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:
- Possess sufficient scientific knowledge of the fundamental and clinical veterinary sciences, as well as animal husbandry, nutrition, reproduction, and diseases.
- Apply professional knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and control of animal diseases.
- Assume responsibility in the fields of animal health and welfare, zoonotic diseases, public health, and food safety.
- Contribute to the improvement of animal health and livestock production by considering the livestock systems and regional needs of Turkestan.
- Evaluate scientific data, think analytically and critically, and develop evidence-based solutions.
- Act in accordance with professional ethics, animal welfare principles, biosafety regulations, and social responsibility.
- Communicate effectively, participate in teamwork, and develop interdisciplinary cooperation.
- Use scientific research methods and appropriate digital technologies, and keep up to date with scientific and technological developments.
