Historic Success at the International Physics Olympiad with the Contribution of the Faculty of Science
The practical laboratory training organized by the Faculty of Science to prepare students for international physics olympiads has culminated in remarkable achievements at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026).
Upon the official request of one of our partners, the Maarif Educational Complex, an intensive practical training program was organized in the physics laboratory of the Faculty of Science from 8 to 12 June 2026 for students Aitegin Emilbekov, Temirkhan Saliev, Umar Tutushbaev, Marcel Kasymov, and Nurbol Myrzabekov from the Maarif Educational Complex and Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School.
The training sessions, aimed at preparing students for the experimental component of the International Physics Olympiad, were conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamara Karasheva together with academic specialists Azat Akmatbekova and Nazgul Adanbaeva. During the program, students became familiar with laboratory equipment, carried out various physics experiments, improved their experimental problem-solving skills, and completed practical tasks in accordance with the Olympiad format.
Following this preparation, the students represented the Kyrgyz Republic at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026), held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from 4 to 12 July 2026, achieving outstanding results.
All five members of the national team received awards. Among the students who attended the Faculty's laboratory training:
- Temirkhan Saliev (Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School) – Silver Medal
- Aitegin Emilbekov (Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School) – Bronze Medal
- Nurbol Myrzabekov (Maarif Educational Complex) – Honorable Mention
The other members of the national team, Askar Abdiev (AIMS Razzakov International School) and Akhmed Abylaev (Seitek-STEM School), also earned bronze medals, enabling Kyrgyzstan to conclude the Olympiad with one silver medal, three bronze medals, and one honorable mention.
According to the Ministry of Education, Temirkhan Saliev's silver medal is Kyrgyzstan's first silver medal at the International Physics Olympiad in 19 years. The previous silver medal was won by Maxim Stepanenko in 2007. Temirkhan Saliev thus became the third silver medalist in Kyrgyzstan's history at the International Physics Olympiad.
