The Department of International Relations accepted its first students in 2007, and the first graduating class was in 2011.

Today, the academic programs, which were created in accordance with standards in Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Western universities, are aimed at implementing the Bologna Process in Kyrgyzstan. Credits are measured according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The academic programs allow students to choose courses in specialties that interest them, from international and comparative politics to international organizations, from international law to economic relations and security problems. In addition to base subjects, students also focus on economics and law. There is also a focus on intense language study - our department holds about 30% of courses in English, and students can also choose Russian or Chinese as a foreign language. Starting in their third year, students can start to choose their elective courses and the language of instruction, thus choosing their preferences for building their career and starting their professional life. Classes are held at the highest levels, with strict controls for testing students’ knowledge (such as exams, papers, and projects). Students are encouraged to complete a month-long internship in Turkey. Thus, our students become specialists who are competitive at the international level and fluently speak at least two language.

A Master’s program in International Relations was started in 2014 in order to expand the areas of specialties and allow students to continue their studies.
