International Mother Language Day at the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University

On February 14, 2024, the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities at Kyrgyz-Turkish University Manas, in collaboration with the Faculty of European Civilization at K. Karasaev Bishkek State University, organized an event dedicated to the International Mother Language Day called "The World of Language and Literature.

            After the promotional film of KTU "Manas" and greetings of students in various languages, the opening of the event featured the following speakers: Head of Philology Department of KTU "Manas," Prof. Dr. Burul Sagynbaeva, who highlighted the significance of the native language in shaping the personality of the modern generation, especially for philologists. Vice-Rector of BSU named after K. Karasaev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Durus Isakbaevich Kozuev, drew attention to the challenge of preserving the purity of the native language in the era of globalization, where the use of foreign words in speech is considered fashionable. Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ashyk, emphasized the importance of language not only as a means of communication but also as a key to understanding the history and culture of a people.

The second part of the event had a research-oriented focus, featuring presentations from teachers of KTU "Manas" and BSU named after K. Karasaeva (Kalieva K.A., Odokozova K.I., Narozya A.G., Osmonova Zh.D., Tursun R.) in various languages including Kyrgyz, Russian, English, and Chinese. The moderator for this part was Professor Dr. B. Sagynbaeva. The speakers discussed topics such as the challenges of translating from English into their native language, the significance of bilingualism in a multicultural society, and the impact of Chyngyz Aitmatov's work on Chinese literature. The student audience showed great interest in these presentations, and all speakers and moderators were awarded certificates.

The event took place in a vibrant and creative atmosphere, once again affirming the unifying role of language and culture in a multicultural society, with the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University serving as a model for this concept.
