The Bishkek International Film Festival dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the renowned Turkic World writer Chyngyz Aitmatov, commenced in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan on November 17, 2023.
The event took place at the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic named after Toktogul Satylganov and was graced by the presence of key figures, including Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic; Altynbek Maksutov, Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic; representatives from Spain, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, Sri Lanka, Libya, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, and Türkiye, as well as officials from the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University.
The festival's guest of honor was Türkan Şoray, the Sultan of Turkish Cinema and leading actress of the film “The Girl with the Red Scarf,” based on Chyngyz Aitmatov's timeless work. Organized with contributions from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, and with support from the Embassy of Türkiye in Kyrgyzstan, TIKA, Yunus Emre Institute, and Native Thought Association, in collaboration with the Department of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, the festival served as a cultural meeting point, bringing together influential figures from the world of cinema.
As the festival continued to strengthen cultural ties, it gained added significance with Türkan Şoray's participation. Proudly representing a significant work of Turkish cinema, “The Girl with the Red Scarf,” Türkan Şoray was also proud to contribute to the festival's international platform.
