On December 1, 2023, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Kyrgyzstan organized a panel discussion to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the famous Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy. The panel titled “The Place of Magtymguly Pyragy in the Spiritual and Cultural Values of Humanity” hosted by Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan Nury Golliev, as well as the Ambassador of Iran to Kyrgyzstan Hossein Yadegari, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan Rapil Zhoshybaev, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan Nazirmad Alizoda, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan Khurshid Mirzahidov, Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, university administrative staff, academicians, and students.
Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan emphasized the significance of Magtymguly Pyragy for the Turkic World and stated, “Even though they lived in different times and places, these pioneering figures united around common ideals, penned immortal works to share their vast life experiences with the people. The name of this shared spirit, evident in Turkistan through figures like Hoca Ahmet Yesevi and in Anatolia through Yunus Emre, finds its manifestation as Magtymguly Pyragy in Turkmenistan”.
Stating that Magtymguly Pyragy is a literary asset in Turkmenistan, Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan underlined that Fragi brought scenes from the life of the Turkmen people to the present day. Prof. Dr. Ceylan stated, “Magtymguly Pyragy on the one hand, produced works in accordance with the poetry of traditional Turkmen literature, and on the other hand, he took important steps for the sake of Turkmen unity by making bold statements in support of this unity.”
At the end of the program, Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan commemorated Magtymguly Pyragy with mercy and respect, concluding his speech with the words, “If the Turkic World can unite around common values today, it owes this to great Turkish thinkers like Magtymguly Pyragy.”
Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan Nury Golliev expressed gratitude to the Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan for hosting the event and for his insights on Magtymguly Pyragy. He also emphasized the importance of the opportunity commemorating significant figures who made invaluable contributions to the history of each nation. Ambassador Golliev noted that great thinkers, considered as founders of the Turkmen literary language, played a crucial role in the forming ethnic unity and acquiring family values. He further emphasized that the works of poets who laid the foundation for Turkmen schools, especially Magtymguly Pyragy, encompassing high moral ideas, worldview, and ideals, serve as a source of inspiration for young generations. Ambassador Nury Golliev drew attention to Magtymguly Pyragy`s collection of manuscripts, highlighting that these works serve as an indicator of the international recognition of the role and importance of world literature.
The program began with the exhibition titled “Cultural Values of Turkmenistan and Pyragy`s Works” in the foyer of the Kasym Tynystanov Conference Hall, offering participants the opportunity to closely examine the cultural richness of Turkmenistan and the works of Magtymguly Pyragy. After the exhibition, opening speeches were delivered and the program continued with a panel discussion.
At the conclusion of the panel, the Rector of our university, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan alongside the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan presented certificates of appreciation to the participants. This meaningful event marked a significant step in strengthening intercultural ties and introducing Pyragy`s legacy to a broader audience.
