On July 2, 2025, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University organized a conference titled “Global Climate Change, Local Impacts, and What We Eat and Drink.”  The keynote speaker of the event was Prof. Dr. Rafet Aslantaş from Eskişehir Osmangazi University’s Faculty of Agriculture.

Prof. Dr. Aslantaş began his address by expressing his gratitude to the university for the invitation. He delivered a comprehensive evaluation of the environmental, social, and economic impacts of climate change. Highlighting that global warming encompasses far more than just rising temperatures, he emphasized its profound consequences in various areas—from ecosystem imbalance and declining agricultural productivity to shrinking water resources and growing threats to food security.

Using visually supported data, Prof. Dr. Aslantaş presented drought risk maps and explored the effects of climate change on agriculture and the evolving food supply chain. He underscored the need to protect local agricultural products, use natural water resources efficiently, and integrate traditional knowledge with modern scientific approaches.

Noting the increasing shift toward synthetic food products due to declining natural food quality, he stressed that sustainable agricultural practices and local production will become strategically vital in the years ahead. “In a globalizing world, local values will matter more than ever,” he emphasized.

The conference concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Rafet Aslantaş in recognition of his valuable contributions.
