An Extraordinary General Assembly Congress of the International Kok-Boru Federation was held at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University.
The Congress was attended by Director of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Kazybek Moldazhiev, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan and Secretary-General Dr. Fatih Ramazan İstanbullugil, representatives of international sports organizations and state institutions; as well as officials from Kok-Boru and related traditional sports federations from Central Asia, Europe, the United States, and other countries.
During the meeting, which was held in a hybrid format (both online and in person), Talantbek Kenzheev was elected President of the International Kok-Boru Federation. In addition, Ravshanbek Adhamov from Uzbekistan and Sergey Savin from the Russian Federation were appointed as Vice-Presidents of the Federation, while Kuvvatbek Askarbekov was elected Secretary-General.
Furthermore, Georgia and Pakistan were admitted as new members of the Federation. As a result, the International Kok-Boru Federation now brings together a total of 17 countries. Askar Salymbekov and Nabidzhan Zhuraev continue to serve as Honorary Presidents of the International Kok-Boru Federation.
Rector Alpaslan Ceylan: “We Will Continue to Contribute to the Development of Traditional Sports with Determination"
The Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan stated that during his time in Türkiye he served as President of the Traditional Sports Federation and noted that, particularly during his tenure as federation president, they took the lead in establishing a Kok-Boru team. He emphasized that the team was founded together with Kyrgyz youth in Ulupamir, Türkiye, and carried out significant activities by participating in various events.
Rector Ceylan also underlined that Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation, has made great efforts to promote traditional sports internationally. Expressing his gratitude once again, Ceylan stated that the establishment of a Kok-Boru field at Manas University is also a result of this vision. He added that the newly built field has been placed at the disposal of the Kok-Boru Federation.
Prof. Dr. Ceylan further stated: “Our University continues its work in this field with great dedication. Our university stadium in Bishkek is ready for the use of the Federation for the competitions to be held here. In addition, as Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, we conduct academic research in the field of traditional sports. In this context, we organized the 13th Traditional Sports Symposium this year and are planning to hold the 14th next year. As Manas University, we will resolutely continue to contribute to the development of traditional sports.”
Director of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Kazybek Moldazhiev wished success to the newly elected administration and stated that the Sports Agency is ready to provide all necessary support within the scope of its authority. He also emphasized that Kok-Boru is one of Kyrgyzstan’s priority national sports.
During the congress, where the federation’s executives presented the activity report, important decisions were discussed and adopted regarding the development of traditional equestrian sports and the strengthening of international cooperation in this field. It was also decided that the Federation’s 2001 Charter would be revised and updated in accordance with current conditions.
