At Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, activities aimed at promoting a culture of reading among students continue in line with the university’s vision of supporting academic and cultural development. Within this framework, Rector Alpaslan Ceylan met with students and academicians visiting the university under the Orhun Exchange Program during a book reading event held at the Chyngyz Aitmatov Campus, emphasizing the ideal of a “reading university.”
Rector Ceylan: “Reading is the Foundation of Individual and Social Development”
Highlighting the transformative power of reading with the words, “A book changes a person; a person changes a society,” Rector Ceylan stated that the habit of reading is one of the fundamental elements not only of individual development but also of social progress. He advised students to develop a regular reading habit and underlined that the university environment should be regarded not only as a place for professional education but also as a space for intellectual growth.
Rector Ceylan noted that they continue to pursue the vision of raising individuals who read, question, and produce through such activities, adding that they remain committed to educating enlightened future generations with the understanding of a “reading university.” As part of the event, Rector Ceylan and the students discussed the works of one of the prominent writers of the Turkic world, Chyngyz Aitmatov, exchanging views on his literary and intellectual contributions.
The event also addressed language and cultural awareness. Through questions related to the Kyrgyz language and the Latin alphabet, the principle “One who knows their language preserves their identity” was brought to the forefront.
