History is the science of studying humankind's past. The main goals of studying history are to objectively and completely illuminate the past, to evaluate it correctly, to analyze past events (cultural, political, and more), to establish connections between different aspects of the historical process, and to create lessons for the future.

The Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities was created in 1997. The Department features Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate programs. As of the 2016-2017 academic year, there were 14 faculty members, each of whom has between 6 and 25 years of teaching experience. The results of scientific research of our faculty members have been published in individual and collective monographs, as well as in several international scientific projects.

The goals and objectives of the Bachelor's program are mainly to prepare professionals and historians that are well-rounded and have basic academic knowledge of the history of Kyrgyzstan and of Turkic peoples.
