Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University hosted the exhibition titled “Pages of History” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region. The exhibition, featuring the works of renowned Kyrgyz painter Akim Turganbaev, was held at the Kurmanjan Datka Art Gallery on October 9, 2024, and drew significant attention from art lovers.

In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan emphasized that Akim Turganbaev's art successfully reflects Kyrgyz culture and life. He stated, “If an artist is disconnected from their society, their works will have no meaning. Artists who protect their society and essence also benefit others. Mr. Akim is a very valuable artist in this sense, and his exhibition at our university will be an important source of inspiration for our young generation of students.”

Prof. Dr. Ceylan highlighted one of the most important duties of an artist: to train apprentices. He expressed hope that Akim Turganbaev would share his knowledge and experience with the youth, stating, “Our young people are eager to learn and have much to gain from our artists.”

At the conclusion of his speech, Prof. Dr. Ceylan wished Akim Turganbaev success and expressed his desire to see his works featured in many more exhibitions throughout his artistic career.

Following this, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Prof. Dr. Kürşad Gülbeyaz, provided important information about the artist, emphasizing that Turgunbaev’s works deeply reflect Kyrgyz culture and Turkish elements. He stated, “My historical works are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kyrgyz Autonomous Republic. Some of my works reflect themes from the 6th and 7th centuries, while others focus on the contributions of notable Kyrgyz writers such as Chyngyz Aitmatov, Tugolbai Sydykbekov, Tologon Kasymbekov, and events that occurred in the Kokand Khanate.” Turgunbaev also discussed his works dedicated to the 1916 Urkun incident, noting, “This historical event is deeply rooted in the memory of the Kyrgyz people, and I strive to keep this memory alive in my art.”
