Rector Alpaslan Ceylan Awarded the Medal of Friendship

On October 30, 2024, the Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan was honored with the Medal of Friendship by the Republic of Mongolia. This award recognizes Prof. Dr. Ceylan’s significant research and projects on Mongolia, his contributions to the understanding of Turkic culture and history, and his efforts to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Mongolia.

The Medal was presented by Mongolia's Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Ganhuyag Sondom during a ceremony at the Embassy. In his remarks, Ambassador Sondom explained that the Medal of Friendship is awarded by President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh to individuals who actively promote international friendship and cooperation. He expressed his joy in presenting this award to Rector Ceylan, saying, “Happy 101st anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye! We especially wanted to present this Medal on October 29.” He thanked Prof. Dr. Ceylan for his support of Mongolian students, noting that Manas University graduates from Mongolia contribute significantly to strengthening international ties.

In his speech durıng the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ceylan emphasized the importance of the brotherly relationship between countries, stating, “Mongolia is one of the countries where I have conducted the most scientific and archaeological research. Mongolian and Turkish peoples have been connected to each other since ancient times. I am very happy to see this brotherhood developing and growing today.” Prof. Dr. Ceylan expressed that receiving this award has motivated him to continue his research on Mongolian history and called it a profound honor, especially as it came from the President of Mongolia. He added, “I will continue my research on Mongolian history and Turkish history in this geography.”

Stating that he has done his best for the education of Mongolian students since he began his tenure as Rector at Manas University, Rector Prof. Dr. Ceylan concluded his speech with the following words: “I believe that youth with their knowledge will shed light on the whole world in the future. In this direction, we are in contact with many ambassadors. I am very pleased that Ambassador Ganhuyag Sondom is deeply committed to addressing the needs of Mongolian students and maintaining close contact with them.” The ceremony concluded with a photo session.

Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan is widely recognized for his dedication to Turkish history and the Turkic World. For over 25 years, he has conducted international scientific works, excavations, and research projects on the ancient history and culture of Eastern Anatolia, Northeastern Anatolia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. His projects, which span countries such as Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Georgia, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Nakhchivan, Turkmenistan, and Libya, have been referenced by many researchers. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Ceylan has held leadership roles in various international organizations within his field.
