On November 1, 2024, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University’s Faculty of Agriculture organized the panel titled “Climate Change and Its Impacts” at the Kasym Tynystanov Conference Hall. The event was a preparation for the upcoming United Nations (UN) Climate Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, scheduled for November 11–22, 2024.
“Climate Change is a Global Issue”
In his opening remarks, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan explained that the rate of atmospheric change increased significantly following the Industrial Revolution, primarily due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases. Emphasizing that climate change is a global challenge, he stressed that all nations share responsibility for addressing it.
Prof. Dr. Doğan highlighted the extensive effects of climate change across sectors such as food, health, urbanization, and infrastructure, stating, “This is not only Kyrgyzstan's problem, nor Africa's or Europe's; it is a shared problem that affects all countries.”
“We Must Ensure a Safer World for Future Generations”
Prof. Dr. Doğan underscored the importance of global awareness regarding the climate crisis. “We live on the same planet, and this crisis has reached a dimension that threatens human life. We must take action to ensure a safer world for future generations”. He expressed gratitude to the Faculty of Agriculture for organizing the event and acknowledged the attendees for their participation.
In the panel discussion, Assist. Prof. Dr. Kubat Kemelov presented “Causes and Effects of Climate Change,” where he analyzed the scientific factors driving climate change. Assist. Prof. Dr. Raziya Abdiyeva followed with her presentation, “Perception of Climate Change in Kyrgyz Households,” which explored the social aspects. Finally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eren Özden discussed “The Effects of Climate Change on Agricultural Production,” highlighting the challenges that the agricultural sector faces as a result of climate change and offering insights into potential solutions to these pressing issues.
Throughout the panel, speakers examined the causes of climate change, its social implications, and its impact on agriculture within an academic framework. The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, fostering dialogue and engagement among participants.
