On the 86th anniversary of the passing of the Great Leader Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, “November 10th Remembrance Program of Ataturk” was held.
The program, which was held in Rectorship Conference Hall by the KTMU Research and Application Center, was attended by Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibrayev, Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan and Prof. Dr. Kamalbek Karımshakov, academicians and several students.
The program started with a moment of silence and singing both of the national anthems. Afterwards a short film was shown about Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibrayev, who made the opening speech of the program, pointed out the historical significance of the remembrance event for Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. “It’s an important duty for us to learn the life stories of great intellectuals who changed the course of this country’s history or turned a new page,” he stated.
In his speech, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Ibrayev who mentioned the significance of thinking and leadership, reminded the quote, “Be feared of the one who thinks” and emphasised that leaders not only bring about reforms, but also think about the future of the state. He stated that Turkish people have been taking significant steps to build the future of Turkey in the direction of Ataturk’s vision. He expressed that Turkey is currently among the developed countries and has made significant progress in the fields of economy, education, culture and military.
Prof. Dr. Ibrayev, referring to the quote of Ataturk’s “Those who love their nation the most are the ones who make their duty the best,” emphasised that people’s commitments reflect to their works, therefore they should always aim for the best in their jobs. Prof. Dr. Ibrayev with urging upon the Ataturk’s patriotism, stated that the 101 years old Republic of Turkey has been standing on this fundamental principle.
Meanwhile Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan in his speech about the meaning and significance of the day, “to commemorate Ataturk means not only to remember the past, but also to understand his foresight, vision, and values, and to pass them on to future generations.” Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan stated that Ataturk is not just a leader but also an ideologue who is deeply enshrine his people’s memory and appreciated by the entire world. His quote “How happy is the one who says I’m a Turk,” is the strongest expression of our national pride. We should always follow these ideals for the unity and solidarity of the nation.
Rector Prof. Dr. Ceylan stated in his speech that Ataturk laid the foundations of modern Turkey not only with military victories but also with the profound reforms he implemented. “He fought the greatest battle against ignorance and placed great importance on education. From women’s rights to industrialization, he worked in every field for the welfare of the people and the independence of the country,” he said.
Emphasising that Ataturk’s slogan “Either Independence or death!” highlighted the Turkish nation’s determination in the struggle for independence. Prof. Dr. Ceylan reminded that this determination played a decisive role in every phase of the War of Independence. Drawing attention to Ataturk’s progressive stance on women’s rights, Rector Prof. Dr. Ceylan said, “Ataturk, by stating “O heroic Turkish woman, you deserve to rise to the skies on the shoulders of men, not to be dragged on the ground,” demonstrated the value he placed on women and defended social equality.”
Ataturk’s Place in the World and His Impact on the Turkic World
Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan stated that Ataturk is a leader who is respected not only in Turkey but also around the world. Recalling that Indian Parliament Speaker Sucheta Kripalani, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt praised Ataturk and admired his vision, Rector Ceylan emphasised that Ataturk inspired nations worldwide in their struggles for independence.
Pointing out that Ataturk is seen as a symbol in the Turkic world as well, Rector Prof. Dr. Ceylan mentioned that the Ataturk Park in Bishkek and monuments in Osh and Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan are expressions of love and respect for Atatürk.
At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan concluded his speech by saying, “We commemorate Atatürk, his comrades, our martyrs, and veterans with respect. His ideas and values will continue to guide us always.”
After the speeches Ayzirek Abdirasitova, a graduate of the Department of Music at the Faculty of Fine Arts at KTMU, performed songs beloved by Ataturk.
The program continued with a lecture titled “Ataturk and the Turkish Language” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Aydogmush, a faculty member from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at KTMU. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aydogmush highlighted Ataturk’s importance placed on the Turkish language and his contributions in this field, emphasising his visionary approach to language in the context of the Turkic world.
At the end of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Aydogmush was presented with a “Certificate of Appreciation” by Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan and Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibrayev for his contributions.
