The Department of Economics

The Department of Economics was founded in 1997, with the engagement of highly-qualified professors from Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. The department prepares specialists through a multi-level system, involving Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees. During the Bachelor’s degree program, students cover the fundamentals of the discipline, plus economic and government training over the course of 4 years. In the Master’s degree program, students go more in depth into economics and government, while also gaining professional skills. The PhD program prepares academics and researchers with the highest qualifications.

Along with the academic programs, the department also organizes various scholarly events. Since the department’s founding, ten international conferences have been organized, on themes such as globalization, economic integration, and transition economies. The department also organizes an intra-university student conference each April. The best student presentations receive prizes and awards.

In order to produce academic literature in the Kyrgyz language, the Department of Economics has published five textbooks. Between 2004 and 2017, our faculty members produced more than 300 academic works, including articles, textbooks, and monographs. Our faculty members continually improve their qualifications and exchange experiences, and actively participate in various research projects.

Students also have the opportunity to complete internships in institutions in Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Every year, our most successful students complete month-long internships in governmental finance and banking institutions and in private companies in Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. During their internships, students gain many skills important for their careers. Students have interned at the Ministry of Finance of the Turkish Republic, the Central Bank of Turkey, the Turkish Chamber of Commerce, the Istanbul Stock Exchange, and in banks such as Halk Bank, Ziraat Bank, the Turkish Standards Institution, and in private corporations such as Zorlu Holding, TEKFEN, and others. In Kyrgyzstan, students have completed internships in the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyz Concept, Doscredobank, Istikbal, Amanbank, the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange, Nurmobil, Kyrgyz Gold, Demir Bank, Ineskim Bank, and other organizations. Many of our graduates open private firms or start their careers in Kyrgyzstan or Turkey, working in places such as the National Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Treasury, the Stock Exchange, capital markets, or banking and financial organizations, where they work as finance inspectors, analysts, independent entrepreneurs, consultants, instructors and researchers.
