The rapid development of economic activities has led to intensive changes to the surrounding environment. In response to this, new research has been started in the field of environmental protection and rational environmental management. There is a high demand for specialists that can monitor ecological conditions, create new low-waste technologies, and bring their experience with industrial fields and technological problems. Today, it is impossible to build a building, road, or factory without ecological expertise. Further, not one company can work in the current ecological situation without environmental engineers monitoring and making sure that everything is clean and safe. Knowledge of the laws of nature serves as a base for solving practical questions about environmental management and evaluating the condition of the environment around us.

After considering these factors, environmental management was chosen as a priority. Future specialists receive experience at industrial enterprises, as well as in administrative, academic, and scientific organizations.

History

The Department of Environmental Engineering was founded in 1997 as the Department of Environmental Technology, as part of the Faculty of Engineering. In the 1998-1999 academic year, the name of the department was changed to Environmental Engineering. The Department offers Bachelor’s, Master’s degrees in environmental engineering. The first students were admitted in the 1997-1998 academic year, and since then 19 classes of undergraduate students and 11 classes of graduate students have completed their degrees.

Prof.Dr.
Zarlik MAYMEKOV

Head of the Department
The relevance of ecological problems is inseparable from the development of our civilization. The growth and sophistication of technology increases the possibility of certain man-made disasters, and leads to the emergence of new environmental risk factors. Equipment that was made in the past is, from an ecological perspective, not ideal, and in some ways has led to modern problems that now threaten the survival of all life on our planet. Solving a lot of these problems relies on the potential of specialists to find the right solution through environmental management and the laws of nature. For this, specialists from many professions need to have basic ecological knowledge. We shouldn’t forget that future specialists should be able to create technology that not only corresponds to the laws of nature, but also controls them.
