The “IV. International Symposium on Translation and its Future,” organized by the Department of Translations in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye commenced on October 19, 2023. The opening ceremony of the symposium was graced by the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University's Rector, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Deputy Rector Dr. Baktygul Kalambekova, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sezai Turk and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamalbek Karymshakov, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Aşık, Lecturer at the American University of Central Asia Prof. Dr. Uulkan Kambaralieva, Lecturer at the Kursk State Medical University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Olesya Razdorskaia, and Deputy Director of the Translators Union of Kyrgyzstan Gulzada Tenisbek kyzy.
The opening program of the symposium commenced with the national anthems of both countries and the screening of Manas University's promotional film.
Dr. Baktygul Kalambekova, Deputy Rector of Manas University shared her experiences of translating important speeches throughout her professional life. She emphasized the critical importance of accuracy in translation, reminding future translators of this fundamental rule.
Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan highlighted that aside from achieving scientific results and publications, providing high-quality education to students stands as a fundamental goal. He expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the Department of Translations in organizing symposiums at the university, with participation from Embassies and Ministries.
Rector Alpaslan Ceylan also revealed the ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure of the Department of Translations and stated the university's commitment to establishing one of the most advanced technological laboratories in Kyrgyzstan for the department. He expressed his wish for the symposium to achieve its goals and concluded his speech by expressing hope for the continuation of peaceful meetings and studies.
The symposium will feature a total of 69 papers presented by participants from Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Russia. This marks the fourth time this symposium has taken place. The symposium began with the opening sessions, focusing on topics such as “General and Practical Problems of Translation,” “Translation and Intercultural Communication,” “Translation Problems between Related Languages,” “Translation Problems between Non-Related Languages,” “New Trends in Translation,” and “Translation and New Technologies.” The symposium is scheduled to conclude on October 20, 2023.
