Rector Alpaslan Ceylan Attended a Conference on the Occasion of the 100th Birth Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev and the 15th Anniversary of TURKPA

On 20-23 November, 2023, the conference was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev's birth and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of TURKPA.

The conference organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), was attended by Bekir Bozdag, Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye; Gunay Afandiyeva, President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation; Shahin Mustafayev, President of the International Turkic Academy; Hasan Hasanov, Azerbaijani Aksakal (Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States); Sayit Yusuf, Deputy Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY); and parliamentarians from TURKPA member countries. Additionally, representing Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University were Rector, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan and Advisor to the Rector, Prof. Dr. Serhat Burmaoglu.

During the event, TURKPA Secretary General Mehmet Sureyya Er emphasized that the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev's birth was celebrated with enthusiasm not only in Azerbaijan but also throughout the entire Turkic World. Also Mehmet Sureyya Er discussed Aliyev's development strategies and his contributions in the post-independence period of Azerbaijan. In addition, Mehmet Sureyya Er highlighted Aliyev's efforts in strengthening relations and cooperation with Turkic states. He stated, “Heydar Aliyev's initiatives for the unity and solidarity of the Turkic World played a fundamental role in enhancing the reputation and influence of the Turkic World in the international arena.”

During the “Experience of the Past, Realities of Today, and Prospects for the Future” session of the conference, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan expressed his happiness at participating in the conference as a “Turkic World University.” He pointed out that with the establishment of the Organization of Turkic States, long-awaited dreams have now started to come true. Prof. Dr. Ceylan emphasized the importance of the Organization of Turkic States and related institutions in transferring the glory of the past to future generations.

In his speech, he also discussed the Turkic World Digital Citizenship Project and the Orhun Exchange Program carried out by Manas University: “The Turkic World Digital Citizenship Project is a initiative that we have introduced while staying aligned with digitalization trends in the developing world. Launched on May 27, 2021, this project is now in its 3rd year. The new phase of the project began under the coordination of Azerbaijan with the theme “Azerbaijan and the Great Leader step by step towards the Turkic century.” Distinguished scientists, statesmen, and artists from Azerbaijan continue to contribute by delivering lectures.”

Rector Prof. Dr. Ceylan provided detailed information about the project in his speech and emphasized that the youth raised in the program will be the future of the Turkic World: “At this point, we are collaborating with 150 universities from 11 partner countries. Ten thousand students have taken courses in this program and achieved success. Currently, 5418 students are enrolled in the Turkish World Digital Citizenship Course. I am pleased to express that more than 300 scientists and over 1400 volunteers are involved in this program. Our goal is to have over 200 universities and more than 30 thousand students participate in this course.”

Prof. Dr. Ceylan also mentioned the Orhun Exchange Program in his speech. In 2017, he stated that Manas University, the permanent coordinator of the program that started after the pandemic, developed the program by implementing educational diplomacy. Prof. Dr. Ceylan added that they organized various panels, symposiums, and forums in this context, and they have implemented 275 protocols with 28 countries.

Referring to the success of Manas University in the QS World University Rankings, he pointed out that our university is among the top 300 universities in the world in modern language teaching. He also noted that in the project on the digitalization of the Kyrgyz language, 2 million words were actively used.
