On December 11, 2023, a panel discussion commemorating the 95th anniversary of Chyngyz Aitmatov's birth took place at the Kasym Tynystanov Conference Hall of Manas University. The event was organized by the Department of Philology of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University in collaboration with the Institute of Language and Literature named after Chyngyz Aitmatov of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan; Vice Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamalbek Karymshakov; Chief Advisor to the Rector, Prof. Dr. Recai Dogan; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Aşık, many academicians and students attended the event.
Head of the Department of Philology, Prof. Dr. Burul Sagynbaeva chaired the panel. The speakers included Prof. Dr. Abdyldazhan Akmataliev, Director of the Institute of Language and Literature named after Chyngyz Aitmatov; Prof. Dr. Ainura Kydyrmambetova; Prof. Dr. Layli Ukubaeva; and Prof. Dr. Osmanakun Ibraimov.
During the panel, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Aşık expressed the productivity of the events organized at Manas University to mark Chyngyz Aitmatov's 95th birthday. He highlighted the profound meanings embedded in each of Aitmatov's works and thanked the panelists for their valuable contributions, expressing hope for the successful conclusion of the events.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Abdyldazhan Akmataliev, Director of the Institute of Language and Literature named after Chyngyz Aitmatov, emphasized the close cooperation between their institute and Manas University. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would further strengthen in the future.
Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan underscored the significance of Chyngyz Aitmatov for Manas University and stated, "Manas University means Chyngyz Aitmatov." He emphasized the efforts being made to transfer Aitmatov's legacy to future generations and drew attention to the concept of "Mankurtism" stressing the importance of preserving language and identity. Rector Ceylan concluded his speech by thanking the participants and reminding them of their responsibility to keep Aitmatov's legacy alive.
The panel delved into the indelible impact of Aitmatov on the Turkic World through his works, discussing his literary heritage and cultural contributions. The speakers highlighted the universal messages and human values conveyed by the author, emphasizing that Aitmatov's works transcend geographical boundaries to resonate with the entire world. Certificates of participation were presented to the participants at the end of the event.
