Project 1: Investigation of the Characteristics of Accommodation Businesses in Kyrgyzstan and Determination of Standard Classification Criteria

Project Budget: $5080
Project Duration: March 6, 2018 – October 6, 2018

Purpose of the Project

Kyrgyzstan has significant tourism potential due to its strategic location, natural beauty, rich history, and diverse cultural values. However, an analysis of past tourism statistics reveals that this potential is not fully utilized. The primary reason is the lack of standards in tourism enterprises, as they classify themselves using subjective methods. This situation creates significant disadvantages in both the quantity and quality of tourists visiting Kyrgyzstan.

The project aims to determine the minimum qualifications for accommodation businesses, establish standardization among facilities, improve service quality, and contribute to the development of new tourism facilities. As a result, it will provide a competitive advantage for Kyrgyzstan's enterprises on an international scale.

Objectives of the Project

  1. Investigate the current status of tourism enterprises and perform a situational analysis.
  2. Classify tourism-certified facilities based on internationally recognized standards and foster collaboration among enterprises.
  3. Achieve the following:
    • Reclassify existing tourism enterprises according to international standards.
    • Provide standardized services to tourists visiting Kyrgyzstan.
    • Enhance cooperation among the Ministry, enterprises, and tourism education institutions.
    • Promote the country's tourism assets more effectively.
    • Equip managers and employees with knowledge of international standards.
    • Ensure sustainable income for the country.

Project 2: Proposal for the Implementation of Eco-Label Certification for Hotel Enterprises in Kyrgyzstan

Project Budget: $993
Project Duration: June 15, 2021 – March 15, 2022

Purpose and Objectives of the Project

Eco-labeling, an economic tool developed for sustainability, promotes the provision of tourism products and services with minimal environmental impact and compliance with international environmental regulations. As a marketing tool, it increases the recognition of regional tourism products and services by tourists, enhances the region's competitiveness, and addresses customer demand for environmental improvements.

Green hotels are defined as environmentally friendly hotels. These establishments implement practices such as water/energy conservation, eco-friendly procurement policies, and reducing emissions and waste, thereby minimizing environmental impact and operational costs.

The primary aim of the project is to promote environmental protection, increase environmental awareness in the tourism sector, and encourage the positive contributions of tourism facilities to the environment within the scope of sustainable tourism. The project plans to grant eco-label certification to facilities that meet the minimum requirements for sustainable tourism.
